Key Responsibilities:
- Patent Application Preparation and Filing: Draft, review, and file patent applications to protect the company's innovative biotech inventions and processes, ensuring compliance with relevant patent laws and regulations.
- Intellectual Property Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive IP strategies to align with the company's business goals, including identifying potential patentable inventions and managing the patent portfolio.
- Patent Prosecution and Defense: Represent the company in patent prosecution proceedings, including responding to office actions, and defend against patent infringement claims to safeguard the company's IP assets.
- Collaboration and Advising: Work closely with research and development teams to identify patentable innovations, provide legal advice on IP matters, and conduct IP due diligence for potential partnerships and acquisitions.
Qualifications:
- JD degree from an accredited institution and membership in good standing of at least one state bar and must be admitted and in good standing to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
- PhD or M.S. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry from an accredited institution
- 5 years minimum of experience as a medicinal chemist in the pharmacology space
- 5 years minimum of related legal experience as in-house and/or outside counsel, with a proven track record in IP preparation, prosecution and management of portfolios relating to the pharmaceutical or biotech industries.
