Job Title: Global Trade Compliance (Reports Directly to the General Counsel)

Location: Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina

My client, a growing global Aerospace manufacturing company is seeking an expert in international trade compliance to join their legal team. This individual must have experience in the Aerospace, Automotive, or adjacent industry.

Position Overview: My client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Global Trade Compliance Specialist to join their legal team. This role is crucial in ensuring that our global trade activities comply with all applicable regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of dual-use items, which can be utilized for both commercial and military purposes, and will play a key role in maintaining their compliance program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Compliance Programs: Design and implement comprehensive trade compliance programs to ensure adherence to ITAR, EAR, and other relevant regulations.
  • Product Classification: Classify products, technology, and software to determine appropriate export control classifications (ECCNs) and USML categories.
  • License Management: Prepare, submit, and manage export license applications, agreements, and other required documentation to government agencies.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay updated on changes in export control regulations and ensure internal policies and procedures are updated accordingly.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to employees on export compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Audit and Assessment: Conduct regular audits and assessments of export activities to identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance records and documentation.
  • Government Interface: Liaise with government agencies such as the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with the export of dual-use items, ensuring that both commercial and military applications are considered.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, Juris Doctor, or Master's degree in Business Administration, International Trade, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in export compliance in the Aerospace, Automotive, or an adjacent field.
  • Expert knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and other relevant export control regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex compliance issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with export compliance software and tools is preferred.
  • Professional certification in export compliance, such as Certified Global Trade Compliance Specialist (CITCS), is a plus.
