Job Responsibilities
- Build a deep understanding of the company's structure, business strategies, and goals to provide relevant, context-driven legal advice.
- Develop training materials and resources for Human Resources (HR) professionals to enhance their decision-making capabilities and build HR competency.
- Communicate legal and compliance matters effectively to leadership and provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies.
- Foster teamwork across functions to drive performance and employee development at Owens Corning.
- Establish and implement employment law strategies that ensure compliance with relevant laws (e.g., ADA, FLSA, EEOC, NLRA, FMLA, ERISA) while enabling efficient decision-making regarding employee issues.
- Counsel business partners on a wide range of employment law issues, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, leave of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, reorganization, privacy, contingent workforce, and immigration.
- Manage outside counsel for employment-related matters and litigation, providing guidance on:
- Conducting investigations and witness interviews
- Discovery coordination and production
- Representing the company in legal proceedings
- Managing case settlements
- Lead investigations and responses to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints (EEOC, state FEP, etc.), audits, and other employment-related inquiries.
- Support M&A activities by advising on employment law issues related to acquisitions and post-acquisition integration, in collaboration with HR leadership.
- Support HR on issues related to FMLA, performance management, employee handbooks, background screenings, and FLSA compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience as an employment law attorney, with a background in both law firm and in-house roles preferred.
- Juris Doctorate and Bar membership in at least one state.
- Proficient in navigating complex employment law issues and providing practical, actionable legal advice to HR and business leaders.
- Ability to anticipate trends, develop sustainable solutions, and contribute to long-term business improvements.
- Adept at identifying compliance gaps and challenging violations of policies or laws at all levels.
- Strong ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage legal issues with precision.
- Understands and values diverse perspectives and fosters an inclusive work environment.
