Privacy Counsel - Growing Insurance Provider
Job Overview:
This global insurance provider is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable legal professional to join its legal privacy team, which will play a critical role supporting the company's compliance with data protection laws and cybersecurity regulations. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to provide strategic legal guidance and ensure robust privacy governance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver expert legal counsel to the DPO, executive leadership, business units, and support functions regarding global data privacy and cybersecurity compliance requirements.
Draft, review, revise, and negotiate data protection provisions in various contractual agreements, and develop clear and comprehensive privacy notices.
Manage privacy-related incidents, including investigations of data breaches and data subject rights requests, and maintain updated records of international regulatory reporting obligations.
Partner with the DPO to proactively assess privacy-related risks and contribute to the development and implementation of compliance frameworks and mitigation strategies.
Stay abreast of evolving global privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity legislation, ensuring ongoing alignment with legal standards across all jurisdictions.
Support the creation and distribution of internal data protection training programs and awareness initiatives to educate employees on best practices and regulatory responsibilities.
Liaise with external legal counsel to ensure effective and efficient delivery of specialized legal services.
Provide legal support to the Vendor Management Office, including advising on vendor compliance with data protection requirements.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree; admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
Demonstrated experience advising on data privacy, cybersecurity, and technology-related legal matters.
In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, and other emerging regulatory frameworks.
Strong drafting and negotiation skills, particularly with data privacy and contractual clauses.
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.
