Overview: We are seeking a seasoned legal professional to provide comprehensive support across the United States in compliance matters related to environmental, health and safety, DOT, and emergency response for oil, natural gas, refined products, petrochemicals, produced water, and midstream operations. This role involves ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations in these areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Environmental Compliance: Advise on and support environmental law and compliance activities.
- Occupational Safety: Assist with compliance related to occupational health and safety laws.
- Emergency Response: Counsel on legal matters related to incident and emergency response.
- Motor Carrier Safety: Support compliance with motor carrier safety regulations.
- Incident Management: Lead and manage investigations, including those under legal privilege.
- Regulatory Response: Handle inquiries and proceedings from government agencies, including administrative challenges.
- Contract Support: Review and negotiate contracts related to compliance issues.
- Litigation Support: Assist with litigation matters concerning compliance.
- Training: Educate operations and support staff on relevant legal issues.
Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Licensing: Licensed to practice law in a US jurisdiction, in good standing.
- Experience: At least 15 years of legal experience, preferably in a corporate legal department, major law firm, or environmental regulatory agency.
- Expertise:
- Extensive experience in environmental law and the pipeline industry.
- Familiarity with state environmental regulations.
- Solid understanding of occupational health and safety laws.
- Knowledge of commercial driver and transportation law.
- Experience with right-of-way or easement issues is a plus.
- Skills:
- Excellent writing and legal analysis skills.
- Strong academic credentials and training from a respected law firm, corporate legal department, or administrative agency.
- In-house experience is preferred.
- Technical knowledge related to remediation, failure analyses, and detailed engineering or environmental reports.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently with internal clients.
