Oil and Gas Title Attorney
The Oil and Gas Title Attorney at a top-tier boutique law firm is responsible for examining and analyzing real property title documents, resolving complex title issues, and drafting legal documents for asset acquisition and divestiture. This role requires a deep understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks related to oil and gas, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with various departments to enhance efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Title Examination and Analysis: Review real property title documents and oil and gas-related agreements. Identify and resolve title issues within the chain of title.
- Ownership Calculation: Chain mineral, surface, and working interest title to produce accurate ownership reports. Calculate ownership of surface, mineral, royalty, and working interest owners.
- Drafting Legal Documents: Draft title opinions advising on ownership and resolving title complexities. Prepare deeds, affidavits, and other legal documents.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to facilitate asset acquisition and divestiture. Provide training and mentorship to junior staff.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in oil and gas title analysis or land management.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with landman training and practical land management.
- Ability to work in high-paced environments and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel and work internationally as needed.
