An innovative and fast-growing renewable energy company in the residential solar space is seeking a Associate General Counsel to join their legal team. The position will involve guiding the executive team on legal strategy, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, particularly in the areas of energy, environmental, and construction law. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in renewable energy, particularly residential solar, and will be responsible for overseeing a variety of legal functions within the company.
Responsibilities:
Advise senior leadership on all legal matters, ensuring alignment with business objectives while navigating the regulatory landscape of the renewable energy industry.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Installation Agreements, Equipment Supply Contracts, and other relevant agreements.
Oversee compliance with energy regulations, environmental laws, and construction codes at federal, state, and local levels. Stay current on changes to the regulatory environment and guide the company through compliance with these laws.
Lead the development and execution of risk management strategies, ensuring that all projects comply with legal standards and managing potential legal risks throughout project lifecycles.
Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws, including wage and hour laws, employee classification, and occupational safety regulations. Provide legal guidance on HR-related issues.
Manage disputes related to contracts, employment, and project execution. Oversee litigation and work with external counsel as needed.
Implement corporate governance policies and procedures to safeguard the company's legal interests. Guide internal teams on best practices related to corporate governance and compliance.
Support mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships by providing legal counsel, reviewing transaction documents, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Provide legal training to internal teams on best practices, legal risks, and compliance obligations, particularly around contractual obligations, energy regulations, and labor law.
Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies, industry groups, and legal professionals, to ensure that the company is well-positioned in the market and compliant with all necessary regulations.
Qualifications:
Around 5 years of legal experience in the renewable energy sector, with a strong emphasis on residential solar.
Proven ability to draft, negotiate, and manage contracts, including agreements with homeowners, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
Knowledge of energy regulations, environmental laws, and construction codes at the federal, state, and local levels.
Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks throughout the lifecycle of renewable energy projects.
Experience in developing and enforcing corporate policies, managing regulatory compliance, and advising on best practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal teams.
Proven leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments, guide senior executives, and manage external legal counsel.
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
