Provide comprehensive counsel to businesses regarding food law, regulatory affairs, and advertising strategies, including:
- Ensuring regulatory and quality compliance with FDA, state, and local regulations, and offering support with facility inspections, enforcement actions, and product withdrawals/recalls across the United States and Canada.
- Reviewing and advising on promotions, advertising campaigns, marketing strategies, product claims, and label content, while also providing assistance with FTC compliance and trademark issues.
- Assisting in the development of products, ingredients, and claims, and staying abreast of GRAS and Prop 65 regulations to ensure compliance.
- Advising business stakeholders on potential litigation risks, evaluating exposure and associated costs, and recommending mitigation measures.
- Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of existing regulations and legislation, monitoring industry trends, and anticipating potential implications for businesses.
Requirements for the position include:
- A JD from an accredited law school and eligibility to practice law in Illinois.
- Minimum of five years of experience in food law within either a law firm or corporate legal department, with a willingness to expand expertise.
- Ability to engage in occasional domestic travel (about 20%)
