We are seeking an experienced legal professional to lead global trade compliance efforts, ensuring compliance with export controls, sanctions, customs, and anti-boycott regulations. This role requires advising on complex trade matters, overseeing compliance programs, engaging with regulatory agencies, and representing the company in industry and government discussions. The successful candidate will serve as a key resource on strategic transactions, provide guidance on licensing and regulatory requirements, and develop policies and procedures to mitigate compliance risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the company's global trade compliance program, ensuring adherence to export control, sanctions, customs, and anti-boycott laws.
- Advise senior management and business units on complex international trade regulations and licensing requirements.
- Lead enterprise-wide Trade Compliance Working Groups and serve as the main point of contact for trade compliance personnel across business units.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to strengthen global trade compliance.
- Engage with U.S. regulatory agencies and industry associations to stay updated on evolving trade policies.
- Represent the company at industry and government meetings related to export controls, trade policies, and compliance regulations.
- Provide strategic guidance on international trade matters, including sanctions, tariffs, and defense trade issues.
- Oversee due diligence efforts for transactions involving foreign business partners.
- Collaborate with supply chain, IT security, and legal teams to ensure compliance across all functions.
- Support internal audits, risk assessments, and voluntary disclosures related to trade compliance.
- Assist in managing third-party denied party screening tools and compliance software.
- Coordinate with internal teams to monitor and respond to regulatory changes impacting global trade.
Qualifications:
- Law degree from an accredited institution and admission to a state bar.
- Extensive experience in global trade compliance within a corporate or law firm setting.
- Deep understanding of U.S. export laws, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC regulations, and anti-boycott laws.
- Experience working with U.S. regulatory agencies, including the Departments of State, Commerce, and Treasury.
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and industry groups.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- U.S. person nationality or eligibility to obtain necessary export authorizations and security clearances.
This is an on-site position based in Washington, D.C., with occasional travel required.
