Healthcare Counsel
Location: Staten Island, NY
The role serves as a primary legal advisor for a well-established not-for-profit hospital. As a Staff Attorney, you'll play a pivotal role in navigating complex healthcare regulations while ensuring legal compliance across hospital operations. This is a unique opportunity to make an impact at a leading medical center, reporting directly to the General Counsel and offering strategic legal counsel to the Board.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Drafting & Negotiation:
- Draft and negotiate physician employment agreements, vendor agreements, managed care contracts, and business associate agreements.
- Regulatory & Compliance Expertise:
- Advise on New York State and federal healthcare laws, including fraud, waste, abuse regulations, HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid rules, and CMS Conditions of Participation (CoP).
- Assist with policy development and compliance strategies, ensuring effective risk management.
- Legal Advisory & Operational Support:
- Provide legal guidance for hospital operations, medical staff bylaws, and risk management strategies.
- Assist with regulatory filings, demand letters, policy memos, and legal communications.
- Serve as a liaison with outside counsel as needed.
- Advise the Board on key legal matters and help inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice in New York with a minimum of 3 years of legal experience, preferably in healthcare law or corporate transactions.
- Experience with healthcare litigation or administrative proceedings is a plus.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management in healthcare.
