Our client, highly reputable in the insurance space, is currently looking to bring on an Insurance Defense Attorney for their Chicago office. This position will operate on a flexible hybrid schedule and will work with international clients on personal injury matters mainly within the construction and hospitality spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret a wide variety of insurance policies, including commercial general liability policies. Identify coverage issues, exclusions, and advise clients on the scope of coverage and legal implications
- Manage and resolve disputes related to insurance claims, including drafting legal pleadings, motions, and discovery requests. Represent clients in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials as needed. Handle claims of bad faith and coverage denials
- Advise clients, including policyholders and insurers, on coverage disputes, potential claims, and risk management strategies. Assist clients in navigating complex insurance issues and provide actionable legal advice
- Lead settlement negotiations, aiming for effective resolutions to coverage disputes while minimizing litigation costs and exposure. Draft settlement agreements and ensure compliance with settlement terms.
- Manage multiple cases and projects, developing case strategies in collaboration with senior attorneys and teams. Ensure that deadlines are met, and cases are advancing efficiently.
- Conduct in-depth legal research on current insurance law, regulations, and industry trends. Stay up-to-date with changes in statutes, case law, and legal precedents relevant to insurance coverage.
- Depending on experience, mentor and supervise junior associates, providing guidance on case strategy, legal writing, and client interactions.
- Build and maintain relationships with existing clients and actively contribute to business development efforts by identifying new opportunities for the firm. Participate in client meetings, presentations, and networking events.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- 3+ years of experience in insurance defense or insurance coverage law or a related practice area (with at least 2 years of relevant litigation experience).
- Strong understanding of insurance policies and coverage issues, including the ability to analyze complex contracts and interpret policy language.
- Experience handling insurance-related litigation, including the preparation and management of lawsuits, and trials.
- Strong deposition skills
- Admission to practice in Illinois, with the ability to represent clients in both state and federal courts.
