The Regulatory Counsel will play a crucial role in ensuring the company's adherence to state and federal energy regulations across various U.S. jurisdictions. As a leading player in the renewable energy sector, the company is committed to advancing sustainable energy solutions through innovation and environmental stewardship. The Regulatory Counsel will provide legal expertise on energy regulations, develop and implement compliance programs, and conduct thorough legal research and analysis. This role will be integral in supporting the company's diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and energy storage, by ensuring compliance and promoting best practices. The Regulatory Counsel will collaborate with internal departments and external partners to address compliance issues, monitor regulatory changes, and deliver training sessions on regulatory compliance, thereby contributing to the company's mission of reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal expertise on federal and state energy regulations to ensure the company and its subsidiaries remain compliant.
- Create and implement compliance programs tailored to meet regulatory requirements in different jurisdictions.
- Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis on energy regulatory matters impacting the company and its subsidiaries.
- Regularly draft, review, and update energy compliance policies.
- Monitor regulatory changes and trends to offer proactive guidance to internal teams.
- Collaborate with various departments and external partners to address compliance issues and promote best practices.
- Develop and conduct training sessions on regulatory compliance for employees and internal teams.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable energy and sustainability initiatives, with a strong background in environmental regulations related to the energy sector.
- Experience in corporate governance, risk management, and energy regulatory compliance, preferably within a corporate legal department.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state energy regulations, including the state public utility commissions.
- Proven track record in managing complex regulatory compliance issues and proceedings.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
