A leading Property & Casualty Insurance company in Sarasota is hoping to bring on an attorney to play a key role the management of the firm's Legal & Compliance department, acting as a business partner to manage all legal and compliance related matters, as well as ad-hoc responsibilities as they arise. This firm has a history of providing industry-leading benefits for their employees, as well as high growth potential throughout the organization.
Reporting directly to the VP of Legal & Compliance, this individual will have high visibility across the business, working closely as an advisor to senior leadership, helping support various internal business units, and overseeing risk management responsibilities. This position manages 2 direct reports and is at the AVP level.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Compliance team; manage senior leadership within the compliance department, support internal and external compliance audits, manage regulatory reporting at the state level, develop and implement internal policies & procedures, etc.
- Act as a mentor to compliance team members - lead response handling, customer complaint resolutions, liaise with state regulators, and more
- Remain updated on regulatory landscape and developments; advise the business accordingly
- Manage commercial agreements and the firm's contract management process; negotiate, review, and finalize agreements with third parties, mitigate contractual risk in accordance with the firm's risk appetite and requirements on the operational level.
- Help lead the corporate risk management committee; identify/assess potential issues and develop action plans to address them.
- Attend executive-level committees with key stakeholders; ensure senior leadership is updated and advise on courses of action.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Florida State Bar.
- Minimum of 8 years of legal experience the Property and Casualty space, specifically with homeowners' insurance.
- Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
- Ability and willingness to manage a team; act as a mentor for junior colleagues.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to developments within the regulatory landscape.
