Our client focuses on developing, financing, and managing community solar projects that offer accessible and affordable clean energy to communities around the nation. As they are expanding their reach and impact, they are seeking a highly skilled attorney with strong renewable energy transactional experience to join the legal team as their Senior Counsel.
Position Overview:
The Senior Counsel will play a critical role in supporting community solar initiatives by providing expert legal guidance on a variety of transactional matters including project development. This role requires a seasoned attorney with proven experience drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements in the renewable energy sector. This role is hybrid in one of the following locations: Atlanta, GA; Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; Asheville, NC; Houston, TX
Key Responsibilities:
- Transactional Support:Provide comprehensive legal support for project development and construction transactions, including site acquisition, permitting, and zoning.
- EPC Contracts:Draft, review, and negotiate Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts to ensure they meet the company's needs and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
- O&M Contracts:Manage the drafting and negotiation of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contracts to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of solar projects.
- Community Solar Subscription Agreements:Develop and negotiate Community Solar Subscription Agreements, ensuring they are fair, compliant, and beneficial to both the company and its customers.
- Regulatory Compliance:Stay updated on federal, state, and local regulations impacting the renewable energy sector and ensure company operations are compliant.
- Collaboration:Work closely with internal teams, including project development, construction, finance, and operations, to provide integrated legal support. Liaise with external counsel as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with a state bar.
- Must have legal experience in the renewable energy industry either at a law firm or in-house.
- Minimum of 5 years of transactional experience in the renewable energy sector.
- Experience with community solar projects is a plus, but not required.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to integrity.
