The Assistant General Counsel will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day business operations of the company by providing comprehensive legal guidance across various aspects of the business. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of real estate and litigation, ensuring the company is protected from legal risk while facilitating its growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and problem-solving strategies in the areas of agency law, real estate law, contracts, intellectual property, employment law, insurance, landlord/tenant law, and mortgage law.
- Respond to internal legal inquiries, ensuring the company remains compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts to safeguard the company's interests in transactions.
- Advise on risk management and insurance issues to ensure appropriate levels of protection for the company's assets and activities.
- Oversee litigation matters and work closely with outside counsel when necessary.
- Assist with employment law matters including employee relations, compliance, and dispute resolution.
- Support and guide internal teams on intellectual property protection and enforcement strategies.
- Stay informed on legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the company's operations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create legal strategies that align with the company's goals.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active Virginia bar membership.
- At least 5 years of legal experience in real estate and litigation, with experience at a reputable law firm or in an in-house legal setting.
- Strong understanding of residential real estate laws, landlord/tenant regulations, and contract law.
- Experience in handling employment law and insurance matters.
- Exceptional negotiation and contract drafting skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive, business-focused mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
