This role leads the Japan Compliance practice and is part of the Compliance function in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, based in the Japan office. The primary responsibility is to ensure all activities adhere to local regulations and company policies. Tasks include drafting, updating, and implementing compliance procedures, monitoring business operations, completing compliance reports, and fostering compliance awareness. The candidate will also assist the Regional Compliance Team in APAC.
Job Specification:
Local Tasks:
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Serve as the main contact with local regulatory bodies.
- Support management in managing regulatory risks, including AML and terrorist financing.
- Advise on AML due diligence, PEP, and sanction checks.
- Conduct regulatory analysis and advise on legislative changes.
- Regularly review and update the Compliance Monitoring Programme.
- Implement recommendations from audits and regulators.
- Act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer and Data Protection Officer.
- Ensure compliance awareness and training.
- Support Board and Group Compliance Reporting.
- Attend to other assigned tasks.
Regional Tasks:
- Assist in implementing the Global Compliance framework in APAC.
- Support alignment of Compliance practices with new entities.
Skills Required:
- 8+ years of experience in Compliance, with consideration for less experienced but highly competent candidates.
- Recognized qualification in Compliance, Legal, Governance, or Risk preferred.
- Fluency in English and Japanese with strong communication skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- In-depth understanding of financial services regulation and AML guidelines.
- Reliable, adaptable, motivated, and able to work under pressure.
- Organized, self-disciplined, and energetic with problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to supervise juniors.
