Reporting to the VP, Legal & Compliance, the Director/Senior Director, Legal will support a broad scope of legal issues and clients related to the commercialization of pharmaceutical products. The successful candidate will partner creatively with business teams to achieve critical objectives while mitigating potential compliance risks. This role offers extensive exposure to all aspects of the business, fostering continued professional development.
Responsibilities:
Legal Advice on Pharmaceutical Sales and Promotion: Provide practical and timely advice regarding compliance with laws related to U.S. and international pharmaceutical product sales and promotion, including fraud and abuse regulations, interactions with healthcare professionals and patients, market access, reimbursement, government price reporting, channel distribution, pharmacy services, and data privacy.
Compliance Policy Development and Training: Develop and implement policies, resources, and training programs to ensure comprehensive knowledge among product teams regarding business conduct in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
Contract Drafting and Negotiations: Support the negotiation of contracts with a wide array of third parties, including healthcare providers and vendors, ensuring the protection of business opportunities, assets, confidential information, and intellectual property.
Preferred Skills, Qualifications, and Technical Proficiencies:
- Active licensure in good standing with the California Bar or another state bar, with eligibility to practice as registered in-house counsel.
- Comprehensive knowledge of laws related to the sale and promotion of pharmaceutical products.
- Strong skills in complex contract drafting and negotiations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide timely, practical, and actionable legal advice.
- High emotional intelligence, capable of collaboratively influencing decision-making through respectful exchanges of ideas and perspectives.
- Self-driven with a proactive approach to identifying and solving complex challenges.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 10+ years of legal practice in healthcare regulatory and pharmaceutical industry law, with experience in general corporate transactional and/or litigation matters.
- J.D. from a respected law school with strong academic credentials.
